Holland Delviss wants to be known for her talent as a hockey player, not a hockey player who happens to be a girl. But when her school team is selected to be featured and televised as part of HockeyFest, her status as the only girl on the boys’ team makes her the lead story. Not everyone is thrilled with Holland’s new fame, but there’s one person who fiercely supports her, and it’s the last person she expects (and definitely the last person she should be falling for): her bossy team captain, Wes.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

With the summer season just around the corner, a book about ice hockey and perpetual snow probably doesn’t seem all that appealing to most of you. I understand there are tons of other YA contemporary reads which are all summer-y and more appropriate for the season, but I ain’t about that right now. I personally prefer cold weather rather than hot, and this is a great book for escaping this heat that I dislike so much.

Set in a small town in Minnesota, Holland grew up with a special love (and skill!) for hockey. Growing up with three brothers who all share the same passion for the sport, she grew accustomed to playing with the boys. So this ultimately led to her decision to play for the boys’ hockey team of her school, instead of the girls’. Of course that doesn’t come easy as Holland constantly gets criticized and belittled because of her decision. So, she always has to try extra hard to prove them wrong and to “earn her spot” in the team. Regardless of the people who don’t believe in her and try to bring her down, what Holland doesn’t expect is that she has a passionate supporter in the form of their awfully crabby team captain, Wes. Now she’s not sure if that would complicate things, especially when feelings get involved.

Hi, you guys!!! It’s been so long since I’ve last made a blog post and being back from my incredibly long hiatus feel so weird and comforting and exciting, all at the same time.

Before anything else, I would like to profusely apologize for my absence. In abruptly taking my indefinite hiatus, I have consequently left a lot of responsibilities and I am sincerely sorry for that. Know that it is absolutely not my intention to neglect them and I will do my best to make up for my shortcomings! ❤

So… It’s been, what, a year? Holy shit, it just dawned on me that I actually didn’t blog for a whole actual year. Yikes.

To be honest, I didn’t quite plan on taking a (very) long hiatus from blogging. I am completely in love with book blogging and I really didn’t want to stop doing it. However, as cruel as it is, life keeps getting in the way. Before this one, I have also taken up another hiatus before because of personal issues as well. I tried to promise myself that it won’t happen again but, alas, I failed.

I started my first year of university around the same time I took my hiatus last year. Taking up a degree with the stigma of being a particularly draining one and which I wasn’t entirely sure I liked, I hope you can imagine the extreme pressure I was constantly in.

I expected that college won’t be easy on me, so I think I made the right decision to take a break from blogging. I prioritized my academics above anything else in this decision so I really focused my energy there. I’m happy I decided to go for a hiatus because If I didn’t, I think I’d have continued just for the sake of routine and not really get to enjoy it as I normally do. Not to mention, I’d put up crap posts which doesn’t bode well for me and my perfectionist ass.

Now, I’m really excited to be back because I miss blogging and most specially, I MISS YOU GUYS! I missed this community so much and I hope I’m still welcome.

Well, considering the current state of our world with this pandemic, this hardly counts as great news. I know that there are more pressing issues and fantastic achievements out there but I’m just so over the moon when I received this news… Apparently, I got into the Dean’s List for my first year in college!!!

After a lot of sleepless nights and countless emotional breakdowns, it’s so heartwarming to see that all my hardwork for college has been acknowledged. Sooooo excuse me while I treat myself to a good book and some junkfoods.

Now, expect to see a lot more of me and my blog! I really want to post a lot from now on, although I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself. I’ll be blog hopping a lot as well, to try and catch up with what’s going on with you guys!

How are you guys, by the way? I hope you’re all doing well, considering the circumstance we are all in. Please stay safe, physically and mentally, especially to those enduring this pandemic by themselves; we’ll get through this. If you need someone to talk to, please know that you are completely welcome to shoot me a message here in the comments, my email or on Twitter DM’s.

That’s it for now! I have a lot to catch up on, and again, it’s good to be back. Au revoir, for now! 😉
