2020 Book Blogger Awards: Nominations!

I can’t tell you how excited I am to bring you this post! Today, I’ll be sharing with you my nominations for this year’s Book Blogger Awards, hosted by Marie @ Drizzle & Hurricane Books and May @ Forever and Everly! This is my first time to be doing this so I’m extra eager.

Being in this community has been one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me. Even though I have been disappearing a lot, most of my friends in this community are still here, welcoming me back with warm virtual hugs! So through this post, I hope I get to convey at least a fraction of my love & gratitude for you all. *chokes back an emotional sob*

I decided to go a bit extra as well, which was inspired by Clo @ Cuppa Clo, seeing that I stole this idea from her. Aside from gushing about my nominated bloggers, I’ve included some of my favorite blog posts of theirs as well!

Learn more about the Fourth Annual 2020 Book Blogger Awards, what it is, its mechanics, the process and categories!

Before going into it, I also want to say that whether nominated or not, everyone’s blogs are all worthy and beautiful just like the people behind them. If I could cram you all in this nominations post, I would but I’m afraid that would get my post disqualified so… πŸ˜‚ Anyway, without further ado, here are my nominations!

BEST PRE-TEEN/TEEN BOOK BLOGGER

Cielo @ Bellerose Reads is one of the bloggers I have recently come to LOVE although I believe I’ve been following her on Twitter for a lot longer. Cielo is a 19-year-old blogger (like me! yay) from Latin America. Okay, first of all, her blog aesthetic is. THE. SHIT! Plus, her content are always so interesting to read, like Discussion: Concerns of a book blogger (+ the importance of feedback), which is a detailed discussion on some of the thoughts that may cloud the minds of us bloggers. I also enjoy reading her reviews, like her review on Hunted By The Sky by Tanaz Bhathena, a well-thought of review on one of my anticipated reads in my TBR!

BEST ADULT BOOK BLOGGER

Next, I nominate Asha @ A Cat, A Book, and A Cup of Tea for this award! I’ve followed her blog for quite a while now as I love Asha’s reviews, like one of her recents: Queen of Coin and Whispers by Helen Corcoran, which may or may not be the reason why the book’s on my TBR now, oops. Anyway, Asha is also one of the nicest people in the community! Plus, I love her wrap-up posts a lot because she does so well and I get really inspired. Check out Asha’s TBR Check In July 2020 post!

Sadly, I decided to have no nominations for the categories under Best of Genre Bloggers because I think I mostly follow bloggers with all-around niches when it comes to genre. *waddles to the next category*

BEST BOOK REVIEWS

For Best Book Reviews, I have two nominations, and the first one being Olivia @ Candid Cover. This blog is probably one of the first few blogs I have followed since I started book blogging. From then up until now, I enjoy reading their book reviews and they are some of the few which I really trust. They’re always critical of the book, pointing out the great parts of it while also being transparent on what parts of the book that wasn’t all too enjoyable. When Olivia has a positive review on any book, you can be sure that I’ll be adding it to my TBR and you can also be sure that I do enjoy it as well. One of the recent posts I really liked is their book review on I’ll Be the One by Lyla Lee, which they deemed kpop fans will love! immediately adds to tbr

Another blogger I love for their reviews is Cristina Monica @ Hit or Miss Books. There are two main things I love about Cristina Monica’s book reviews, the first is that she reads from such varied genres and she features reviews for nonfiction books regularly as well. Another thing I love is how she doesn’t give out 5 star ratings freely. Unlike me, Cristina Monica does not rate based on feelings and emotions so her star rating is actually a great reflection of her reviews. So when I see her give a book a 5-star rating, then I’d expect the book to be spectacular! Check out Cristina Monica’s book review on The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller, one of the books on my TBR right now that I’ve been dying to read!

BEST BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

Ah, book recommendations. This will be my Goodreads’ downfall, purely because my TBR keeps increasing but I fail to read as much as what I’m adding! And I blame nominate Sasha and Amber @ Sasha and Amber Read for this! πŸ˜‚ Seriously, the amount of books I’ve added to my to-read from their recs is staggering. They have the best diverse recommendations list ever and if you’re looking to multiply your TBR by a lot, I suggest you check their blog out! Here’s their “LGBTQ+ Comics and Graphic Novels recommendations” for a start!

BEST DISCUSSION POSTS

Aside from having a wonderful blog aesthetic and amazing book reviews, Kelly @ Another Book in the Wall also has one of the best discussions post from the bloggers I follow. Her content are always so creative and really fun to read about! My favorites include this post on how Kelly doesn’t fit the bookworm stereotype because I heavily relate to it, no joke. Her posts are also very helpful to other bloggers, like her tips on how to blog when you haven’t read anything new, because let’s face it, more often than not, I have these really bad slumps and life often gets in the way of my reading.

BEST BLOG AESTHETIC

I’m going out on a limb here and say that I think I’m in love with gold. Seriously though, Divine @ REA[D]IVINE has probably one of the most beautiful blogs I have ever seen in my life, and I swear that’s not an exaggeration. Her blog looks very sophisticated with a Victorian vibe to it, and you can tell that every aspect in it is well-thought of. Plus, Divine’s content are always so gooood. My particular favorite one is her “Tarot & Literature“, where readers get to pick a card (or two!) and we get to find out what kind of readers we are based on what we selected. It’s eerily accurate for me, and I suggest go checking it out for yourself!

BEST BLOGGING/WRITING VOICE

For this one, I nominate Nox @ Nox the Reader. Whether it be book reviews, discussion posts or just all her blog posts in general, I love reading! I find that she articulates everything she has to say really well and her writing voice is distinct as well. So when I see an email notification that Nox has put up something new on her blog, I click it right away! Here are two posts from her that I like: her thoughts on Shea Ernshaw’s books, whose work I’ve recently come to enjoy, and a very helpful guide to Anti-Racist Resources.

MOST HELPFUL

There are a lot of helpful bloggers out their in our community but one that proved really helpful to me recently is Zenobia @ ThatZenBlog. Aside from book-related posts, she writes about other niches as well! Her blog is easily accessible as well and her blog aesthetic shows different features for books, blogging and lifestyle which is convenient for visitors to browse her content. Here’s one of my personal favorites which made my life so much easier: “6 Tools That Help Me Organize My Blog“. If you’re new to blogging and don’t know where to start or if you want lifestyle advices, I suggest you check Zenobia’s blog out!

MOST SUPPORTIVE

I think it goes without saying that Clo @ Cuppa Clo is the most supportive person I know. She always goes blog hopping and she is always very enthusiastic in boosting other bloggers’ content. Clo also goes out of her way just to spread love in our community, which honestly melts my heart *uwu* She always makes sure to share other’s posts that she personally enjoyed, so that others can show their love as well! Check out her “Monthly Rewind: April 2020” where Clo recaps how her month went, and she also featured lots of great posts there as well.

MOST ENGAGED IN THE COMMUNITY

Again, I won’t be nominating anyone in particular for this category as well. I feel like everyone of us engages in the community well, in each of our own ways. And if I were to list everyone I deem fit for this category, well, I’ll be listing far more than three people.

MOST CREATIVE

I will 100% nominate Noura @ The Perks of Being Noura for Most Creative, without a doubt. Firstly, I’m in love with Noura’s graphics and her original digital bookmarks are all so beautiful! Plus, I find her content really, well, creative. Noura has a variety of blog posts up on her blog, from book reviews, author interviews, journaling, and her readathons are some of the most creative one I’ve seen! In fact, I’m currently participating in Noura’s Totally Spiesathon Readathon for the month of July!

BEST SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCER

For Best Social Media Influencer, I believe Kate @ Your Tita Kate is the perfect blogger for this category! She definitely uses her platform, especially on Twitter, in advocating for all the right things and she is not afraid to speak out with regards to pressing issues, especially with what our country is facing right now. Meanwhile, she also never fails to promote diverse reads, particularly Filipino ones, on her blog. Here’s her post on “Most Anticipated Reads for July, August and September 2020” which consists of really exciting books from diverse and AOC!

BEST PERSONALITY

Before writing this post, I took it as my mission to nominate one blogger only once. I tried, I really did, but I failed miserably at that because I’m here tagging the wonderful Clo @ Cuppa Clo for the second time. Well, can you really blame me that when I think of Best Personality, I think of Clo? She has such a kind nature, always so friendly and warm to people in general. I admire her for a lot of things, her character, her wisdom, creativity, dedication, and also for the fact that she single-handedly made my life better by hooking me up to the K-pop boy group, ATEEZ. lmao sorry i just had to mention that Truly, Clo is one of the people I’m glad to have in my life. Now, if you’re a bookdragon (or not!) you have to check out one of her posts from an original series of her blog: “Imagine If Two Bookdragons Dated” because it is just the cutest thing e v e r.

FRIENDLIEST MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY

I’ve recently met Giuls @ Bookish Giuls in the Bookish Collision Discord server, and she has been nothing but friendly! I have always had a bit of a problem making friend in the community since I get really intimidated most of the time and I end up not reaching out, but Giuls has that certain aura to her I find approachable. Check out her post “Reading With Anxiety and How to Avoid Getting Distracted” which has some great tips that had been really helpful to me, as anxiety tend to hinder my reading enjoyment a lot recently.

Another awesome blogger I’ve recently met, also through the Bookish Collision server is Sophia @ Bookwyrming Thoughts. She gives off this cool vibe and from seeing her Pikachu icon on Discord, I knew that I’d get along with her haha. I live for her witty remarks and wonderful K-pop recommendations (which I will get to once I’ve come down off my ATEEZ fever). Here’s one of Soph’s reviews, her review on one of the books high on my TBR, “Forest of Souls by Lori M. Lee“.

For my last, and certainly not the least, nomination, is another wonderful blogger I’ve met on the Bookish Collision server. I nominate Marley @ Dragon On a Book for this category too as they are very affable and I enjoy talking to them about random stuff. They have been so helpful to other different people as well! Marley reviews a lot of my anticipated TBR reads on their blog, and here’s their review one I’m looking forward to: “Review // Loveless by Alice Oseman“.

BEST AT PROMOTING DIVERSE BOOKS

I guess it wouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that my immediate thought for this category is CW @ The Quiet Pond. I appreciate all the effort and hardwork she has exerted in uplifting and promoting diverse books. Whenever a friend of mine would ask for diverse book recs, I would automatically link CW’s blog. To show you all, here’s her “Book Recommendations: Pride Month Edition – 21 Books with Gay and M/M Rep To Read and Love During Pride Month!” which concisely tells us a bit about each book and why we should read it, plus she advocates for Black-owned indie bookstores as well whose links can be found at the end of the post!

BEST NEW BOOK BLOGGER

I’m glad to have found Liza @ The Inharmonious Heroine and her blog because it’s positively amazing! I’m not one to “critique” on this matter so I’m going purely on my gut feeling here, but it totally feels like she has been blogging for ages despite just starting June this year. Liza’s blog posts are very well-written, consistently has great points and I always enjoy reading them! Here’s her review on Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, which I really loved reading!

Here’s another fantastic blogger having recently started her blog: Ysa @ Ysa, not Bella. It is always such a delight for me to read about Ysa’s blog posts and tweets. I also admire her creativity and talent as she is an illustrator and a writer as well! Look: “July TBR List and #RCB Challenge” where Ysa has a great to-read for July and I can’t wait to hear what she thinks about the PJO series.

BEST OVERALL BOOK BLOGGER

I nominate Alicia @ A Kernel of Nonsense for Best Overall Book Blogger for the simple fact that I love her blog to pieces! She is one of the bloggers I have followed for a long time, maybe since I’ve started blogging, I’m not sure. All I’m certain of is that I have enjoyed all her content and she has inspired me a lot, especially bookish- and blogging-wise! It’s always so fun to see her weekly meme posts and I enjoy her eloquent book reviews. Alicia is also brilliant in promoting diverse books, especially those with Latinx representation and those written by Latinx authors. Check out her recent installation on her original blog feature “Talk Chisme to Me: July Releases by Latinx Authors” which is full of great recommendations and she also advocates for Black-owned indie bookstores in the post as well!

Of course, I had to nominate one of my favorite bloggers right now as well, which is Leelynn @ Sometimes Leelynn Reads. I look up to this blogger very much for her passion and devotion to uplifting diverse books by diverse authors. Leelynn is one of the owners of the Hear Our Voices Book Tours, a lovely company dedicated to promoting Authors of Color and getting ownvoices books in the hands of ownvoices reviewers! Basically, Leelynn is a wonderful, kind soul who deserves to win this award. Check out her latest post: “[#OwnVoices ARC Review] Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron” where she talks about how fantastic the book was, and she shares links to others’ reviews as well at the end of her post!

Wooooh, and we’re done! That’s it for my nominations. It took me so long to finish this post because it was so hard for me to pick only 1-3 people for each category as I really want to nominate everyone lol. Again, whether you’ve been nominated or not, I believe that you are a wonderful human being and that your blog is fantastic, and thank you for being here in the community with us!

Now, please check out all the amazing bloggers I’ve nominated (as they absolutely deserve all the love in the world) while I treat myself to binge-watching ATEEZ videos. I’m not even sorry.

  4. Aw thank you so much! I absolutely agree with everything you said. I am pretty stingy with my 5 stars and probably always will be. πŸ˜€ It means a lot when people notice that I try to vary my content and offer different recommendations. Curious to hear what you’ll think of The Shadows Between Us xo

  5. Aww Luxe! Thank you! πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί I’m glad you like my Pikachu icon; this encourages me to never change it unless it’s something equally as good, haha. (Also, yes, please get around to the other recommendations; Clo’s already did part of the work for me.)

I can definitely vouch for Clo being friendly and warm to people – she was one of my first friends in the New Book Bloggers Discord server and honestly I can’t think of her NOT in my life.

  6. Hallo, Hallo Luxe,

What a lovely presentation of your noms! This is my first year joining the nomination round and the first year I was a double nominee. I’ve released my noms list last night whilst I turnt in my noms earlier in the afternoon. It has been such a wonderful experience – quite humbling too as it not only gives us perspective on how others appreciate what we’re doing but also the gift of passing forward the joy by nominating the bloggers we love to read ourselves. I love the whole community aspect of it!!

I recognised a handful of bloggers we both mutually love reading however there are a lot I need to start visiting as I haven’t heard of them previously. Perhaps you’ll find a few mutuals on my noms list? I’ve included your post on my post – as I am sharing whose posting their noms lists.
