Let’s Talk KPOP: Ateez’s Whole Discography // In which I just fangirl a lot

Hello friends! Guess what day it is today! Okay it’s a Saturday, but it’s a special Saturday because it’s ATEEZ’s 2nd anniversary! *cue the confetti*

Let’s ignore the fact that this is a day late because my internet decided to act up so I wasn’t able to put all the links in time to post yesterday. πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

This wouldn’t be like my usual posts and I don’t talk about books in this at all, but I just wanted to do a blog post appreciating one of my favorite Kpop groups ever in their debut anniversary!

So a few weeks back, my sister introduced me to this site where you can make tier lists for basically anything and I found the concept of this interesting so I decided to try it for myself. And of course, the first thing I typed in the search box was ATEEZ! And that’s how I ended up here, having numerous internal arguments with myself, trying to rank which their whole discography. So, if you’d like to see me be a raving mess about ATEEZ and their music, then you can go ahead and read on!

Please know that I intend no negativity with this. I’m also not an expert in the field of music. I just absolutely love the artists I feature and I simply do this for fun, to promote the artists I enjoy and also as a way for readers to hopefully know me better (through my music taste)!

Before I get into anything, I’m putting another disclaimer here: I am a big fan of ATEEZ so you should expect A LOT of swooning from me in this post. Basically, just love and praises for this amazing K-pop boy group. So if you don’t want to see any of that (idk why you wouldn’t but…) I guess this post isn’t for you. *pouts* Also, this turned out to be less of “ranking” their songs and more like categorizing them, not gonna lie. But I hope you still enjoy!

Overall View

You have no idea how hard it was for me not to put everything in “god tier” and just call it a day. I kept on changing my mind and rearranging everything like at least a dozen times so I’m posting this now before I mess with it again.

Again, this turned out to be more of categorizing the songs as to how much I listen to each one because there’s literally not single one I disliked. Am I biased? Probably. But I wouldn’t be this in love with Ateez if I didn’t think that their music is phenomenal.

Anyway, I’ll be going on more about some selected songs from each tier and I’ll also be linking their respective music videos/performances on YouTube!

Those with sparkles (✨) are those that I elaborate on. I won’t talk much about every single song or else this post would go on forever lmao.

Iconic. There’s nothing else to say. No, but seriously, this song I think combines a variety of genres like trap, hip hop and has distinct oriental riffs. I believe that this song brought out the great dynamic of ATEEZ’s rappers, plus their vocal line too! Not to mention that the dance choreography to this is so satisfying to watch, I’m convinced everyone in this group is the main dance lmao.

HALA HALA (Hearts Awakened, Live Alive) ✨

This is it. This is the song that got me hooked on ATEEZ and it remains to be one of my most favorites. It’s so hard to describe this one, it’s like a mix of r&b, trap and hip hop? But one thing is for sure, this is one heck of a rollercoaster ride. The way it starts isn’t exactly how it will end πŸ˜‰ Please listen to this song, or better yet, watch it’s dance practice or live performance. Their brilliant choreography and astounding stage presence adds so much more to the experience!

Initially, I was gonna put Fever under the “makes me feel things” category because this does make me feel A LOT of things but it dawned on me just how much I listen this song, like I play this every chance I get and I just love it more every time. So naturally, this has to go to the “god tier” right?
This pop r&b song has a completely different feel from the previous song, HALA HALA. As one of the members said, this is the perfect song to listen to while driving with your windows down (but with your mask on, of course). Fever feels like a song about summer, not the live-in-the-moment, having-the-time-of-your-life vibe but the feel of a great summer coming to an end, where we’re left reminiscing the precious memories we had then.
I think Hongjoong also mentioned somewhere that their message for this song isn’t necessarily to “think positive” when faced with problems in life, it’s more like giving hope. They wanted to express how they have been through tough times too, and because of that, they understand what it feels like.

Say My Name
Another iconic one. Dance choreography is fire!! πŸ”₯ This combination of trap and country-style EDM was released on their first comeback and it’s way ahead of its time for sure.

A masterpiece. There’s no other way of describing this. The vocals, the dance break, the raw emotion they radiate (especially in their live performances!), everything is just perfect. They said it themselves that this song isn’t like anything they’ve done before, so it’s great to see another side of them in this urban-style EDM song. Plus, there’s a surprise around the chorus parts ^^

I still can’t believe that this is a b-side track, WIN is an absolute masterpiece and goes so well with their pirate concept. Go have a listen to this song and you’ll understand why. This has a Moombahton-style feel to it and I think a bit of hip hop too? WIN also has one of the best dance choreographies, and add the explosive stage presence that ATEEZ is known for… *chef’s kiss* I am so in love with this, and this is the perfect hype song!

Official Audio (This is a b-side track so no music video, sadly.)

Another Live Performance just because it’s WIN.

This EDM track is probably one of the most beautiful songs to ever exist, I’m not even kidding. Also has one of the most beautiful background/hidden vocals, ooooh the chills. I listen to this nonstop. The music video is also really impressive and is a crucial piece of the storyline. Can you tell that I love ATEEZ’s universe?

Dazzling Light

Probably one of their most underrated b-side tracks and I wish they performed this live more. The high notes give me the goosebumps and the instrumentals in this is just on a whole other level!

Live Performance: Online Crescent Party
Live Performance: Fancam from their Concert in Seoul

This is another b-side track that I love (hip hop), and I just have to quickly mention how this is like a darker version of Treasure. Which is connected to their storyline πŸ˜‰

I want to cry every time I hear this song. This is a beautiful and emotional r&b song that “compares the anxious mind wrapped in agony while worrying whether it is the right way or the way we chose.”*

Light ✨

This is definitely one of my favorite ATEEZ b-side tracks! I think I’ve said that a lot already, but it really is! I’m a big fan of r&b so this soft song is right up my alley and it’s no surprise that I loved this immediately after listening to it the first time around. Also, this is a complete 360 from HALA HALA despite being in the same album, which just proves how versatile ATEEZ is! Am I making it too obvious that Treasure EP. 2: Zero to One is my favorite album?

Official Audio (This is a b-side track so no music video, sadly.)

Their most recent release. THANXX is a combination of pop and hip hop with a bit of tropical vibes too. Please listen to the song ’til the end, I promise it will be worth it!
If you’re curious about the meaning of the song, this site says that this “is a song displaying many emotions regarding the stereotypical definition many consider success. The song lyrics show a generation that’s tired of being bound by the same rules society have us follow. ATEEZ is expressing that desire of wanting to break free from those old chains through this song.”

Aurora ✨

Aaaaah, this song has a special place in my heart! This one is written and composed by ATEEZ’s leader, Hongjoong, during their world tour a few months after their debut. According to him, this song encapsulates how he felt while looking on to the audience as the lights reminded him of an aurora. πŸ₯Ί

I feel like this is an unpopular opinion as TO THE BEAT isn’t really everyone’s cup of tea. But personally, I really enjoy this intense hip hop song and these kind of music. What really drew me into this song is the different textures (I’m not sure if that’s the right term but let’s go with it) and the fact that this is more of a rap-centered song. Mingi rap king! *mic drop*

Selfie MV

Sadly, that’s the only video I can provide because they haven’t performed this one live. But please do watch their Selfie MV. If you think ATEEZ is intimidating from their songs, in this video, you’ll see how cute and dorky the members actually are! πŸ˜‚

Good Lil Boy

I believe this is another one that ATEEZ’s leader, Hongjoong, participated in composing and arranging. Listening to this song feels like going an adventure and it has a Western feel to it!

Official Audio (This is a b-side track so no music video, sadly.)

Another Live Performance because I couldn’t pick between the two.

I think this is the closest we’ll get for a cute concept from ATEEZ for now. However adorable the music video and its dance might seem, I believe that the lyrics of this soft hip hop song actually present a dark theme! This ties in with some theories for their storyline too hehe.

Music Video
Live Performance
Another Live Performance because I’m still bitter we didn’t get a dance practice of this.

To be honest, I didn’t know how to feel about this at first. It sounded a lot different from the music I usually listened to, but eventually, I absolutely fell in love with it. As expected from ATEEZ, the song becomes more and more intense as it progresses. πŸ˜‚
According to this site, Desire is a “deep-house-based mysterious song that expresses ATEEZ, which is not yet known but pursues the treasure that exists somewhere” which I think perfectly encapsulates this song.

I put this song on repeat for a reason. WITH U is an r&b ballad and it is freaking beautiful. I’m actually surprised that I can’t find any live performances of this.

Official Audio (This is a b-side track so no music video, sadly.)
– I couldn’t find any live performances so please enjoy ATEEZ’s relay dance cover of EXO’s Growl instead.
Dancing Like Butterfly Wings ✨

We all have that one song that makes us wanna dance immediately as soons as it plays, and Dancing Like Butterfly Wings is that song for me. The fact that ATEEZ danced to this along with their fans makes it more special for me! The song itself This incorporates rock style to it and I think that’s another factor why I love this a lot. This is just an overall really fun song!

If Without You

Another gorgeous song, alongside WITH U! And another song that I couldn’t find a live performance for 😭 I think I listen to this most during the evenings as it’s so soothing. This hip hop r&b track is probably another underrated b-side too!

Official Audio (This is a b-side track so no music video, sadly.)
– I couldn’t find a live performance for this so please enjoy ATEEZ’s cover of SHINee’s Sherlock instead.

Pirate King ✨

This song, along with HALA HALA, was stuck in my head from my early days of being an ATEEZ fan. If Clo and Soph are reading this, they’ll agree because I think I queue this up at least three times in our Discord listening party πŸ˜‚ But Pirate King, especially its hook, has that effect on most people and the dance choreography is quite something too!

Live Performance monster rookies, me thinks 😳

This is not simply a bop, WONDERLAND is ATEEZ’s anthem. I mean, there’s even a marching band in the music video. If you set me up with a try not to sing-along/dance challenge and this song comes up, I guarantee my immediate failure as soon as I hear that first growl.

2019 MAMA Performance there is no way in hell I wouldn’t mention this iconic stage
Halloween Special Stage a bonus one since ATEEZ owns halloween

The composition of this song is pretty unique to me, also having a mashup of hip hop and EDM, so it blew my mind the first time I heard it. Plus the choreography is beautiful too, which isn’t surprising at this point.

My Way

This is a b-side from their debut album and what I love the most about this song is its lyrics. It says that ATEEZ is going in their own path, no matter the obstacles they face in the way. πŸ₯Ί

Another b-side from their debut album; a tropical house song. The vocals here are so good and I’m not really sure why I don’t listen to this as much as I would have liked.

Wave ✨

Wave is probably one of ATEEZ’s most popular songs and I have a pretty good reason as to why I don’t listen to this as much. It’s because I’ve played this song over and over when I was first getting into ATEEZ that I’m afraid I’ll get tired of it πŸ˜‚ I’m not kidding when I say I’ve probably watched all their live performances for this. Wave is just such a fun summer, feel-good song that everyone can vibe to!
This has like a tropical feel to it, and this site mentions how Wave is a cross between the Moombahton genre and country guitar.

I feel so bad saying this but at some point, I constantly forget that Promise exists lmao. Don’t get me wrong, I love this song to pieces too but for some reason, it never comes up whenever I put my playlist on shuffle so I end up neglecting it.

Live Performance

I believe this is has EDM elements. Another gorgeous song that I really should listen to more often. The live performances of this just give me the chills every time. Man, Seonghwa’s high note and the powerful choreography in this one *sighs*

Live Performance

So these last 6 songs are really special and are mostly the songs I turn to when life gets a bit too overwhelming. As much as ATEEZ owns the stage with their explosive performances, they also release the best comfort songs dedicated to fans around the world. I mean, they have different songs for their fans in three languages: Korean, Japanese and English.

One Day At A Time ✨

This is ATEEZ’s first full English track and one of my ultimate comfort songs. This incorporates like lo-fi and the music is just honestly so soothing along with its lyrics. Aside from the members’ promise of support to their fans, what I love about this song is the assurance that we aren’t alone in the problems we face and that it’s completely alright to accept help from the people around you.
With the hard times we experience in life, they wanted this song to serve as comfort to everyone no matter the distance that separates us.
The fact that they exerted a lot more extra effort in learning English for this too is also very heartwarming. Aaaah, they truly are the sweetest πŸ₯Ί

Live Performance from Port of Call, their 2nd Anniversary Concert.
Star 1117 ✨

This will never not make me emotional. Aside from sounding perfect for a K-drama OST (r&b ballad), Star 1117 is actually a very meaningful song for ATEEZ and their fandom, ATINY.
From the start, ATEEZ has always wanted and involved their fans in their projects and that includes their fandom name. They made the decision together and officially announced “ATINY” as their fandom name on November 17, 2018. Also, since stars were used by sailors before to navigate, ATEEZ regards their fans as the stars who always guide them in their journey. Hence, the song title, Star 1117. *sniffles*

Another one of my favorites, Sunrise is as motivational as it is comforting. This song is about the world recognizing all our efforts and our hardwork paying off in time. A medium-tempo pop song.

Official Audio (This is a b-side track so no music video, sadly.)
Live Performance

As much as I love the songs they dedicate to fans, the ones they dedicate to each other hits different for me. Incorporating both pop and rock, THANK U is about the candid feelings of the members for one another, as they go through the ups and downs of life together.
The Korean title of this track is 친ꡬ, which means “friend”. This just shows how much they value each other and how much of a family they are.

Live Performance from their Comeback Concert + Behind the Scenes videos from their preparation

An EDM song. Again, this talks about the journey people take in life and seeing that this is from ATEEZ’s debut album, that just brings a smile to my face hehe.

MV for ATINY The video is actually a (really fun) ATEEZ log but the MV starts at timestamp 6:55.

Live Performance: Fancam from a concert in Sydney (Not the best fancam but they were having so much fun!)

This one is part of ATEEZ’s Japanese album. This is so underrated, honestly. But the lyrics to this song is really inspiring as it talks about going through life, growing at our own pace and continuously being better versions of ourselves.

Spotify (Apparently, there’s no official audio of this uploaded on YouTube.)

Aaaaand that’s everything! I had my doubts if I’d be able to pull this off, not gonna lie. There’s only so many synonyms for amazing and great and powerful, but I’m glad I didn’t run out of words to describe their songs.

Hmm, you could probably tell by now how much I enjoy r&b and hip hop genres, no? I think almost all the songs on my “god tier” list were of that feel!

I hope I did justice describing ATEEZ’s songs and how they show different colors of themselves through their music. Personally, with the range of their discography, I feel like they have a song that aligns with people’s varying tastes! πŸ˜„

As though I haven’t raved about them enough, I just want to reiterate how much I’ve fallen in love with ATEEZ, both with their music and their own personalities. Today being their 2nd year anniversary signifying the end of their rookie days, I can’t wait for the whole world to realize they’ve been sleeping on talent. πŸ˜‚

If you’ve made it this far into the post, I love you. If you watched some (or all!) of the videos I’ve linked above, I love you. If you were impressed and you decided to stan, I LOVE YOU SHOOT ME A DM ON TWT! πŸ˜‚

So that’s it for now, friends! I hope you enjoyed reading this post as much as I had fun writing it. I know this isn’t like my usual posts but I’ve been wanting to write one about ATEEZ for so long and I thought with their anniversary, it’s the perfect time to do one!

Which songs did you listen to and what do you think of them? Are you an ATINY too? Let’s chat! πŸ₯ΊπŸ§‘
